There seems to be some details holding up the insurance from IMBA that are beyond our control.
James (our BC IMBA rep) has suggested that we might be able to get a temporary work permit for the trail day at the end of the month.

We need to clarify this ASAP.
No insurance = no club trail day event.

Well, the IMBA thing is kind of in the toilet. I'm open to suggestions at this point.
Coverage for trail maintenance and riding events would be cool.

What are other clubs doing for their insurance?
Why is IMBA in the can?
What are we doing wrong/don't have/need to have/do to fix this?
I hear the answer but not the why/what etc.

Ya, I thought I posted the same thing on here as Gnarly allready. It makes sense to ask othere clubs how there getting insurance for races and what not. I did send an e-mail to Catherine Gage of the http://www.csf.ca/en/ , I was told by a friend that she could possibly help. We'll see where this goes, "Catherine is a guru on clubs and helps many clubs get off the ground", are the words from my source.
Sorry about the bold I didn't turn it on and cant seem to be able to turn it off.

Oh, IMBA was supposed to have a group policy in place, and had led us to believe that there was more than one option. At this point, the underwriter has balked, so there's nothing on that front.
It seems like we're being singled out for some reason, probably because we aren't using either firearms or internal combustion engines (I guess chainsaws don't count. Maybe if we promise to cut down more trees…). The whole thing makes you want to go out and club a baby seal, I tells ya.
Most clubs have no insurance.
All we really need is special event insurance for the day of the maintenance events. 2 million in liability should do it.

EUREKA!!!!
So we can get insured at http://www.grmba.ca/. It's $200 for the special executive coverage (covers the club directors for liability) and $27 per club member for the year.
No 3rd party coverage, but no-one has that anyway.
Pretty fricken expensive, but there ya go.

I'd like a lot more info.
There's the issue of the executive personal liability if some gets bust up on a trail day. Who sues who? The club has to have some protection for the executive members to protect them from personal liability. We're legitimate targets if someone gets cranky. It even relates to things like defamation/slander. Members are OK, they're not at risk, but to an extent, we are.
So, does anyone want to risk losing their house for the sake of a trail day?Or some loose cannon coming onto the forum and ranting and raving? Cuz that's where it's at if Bubba chops his arm off. Or even if a truck reverses over someone in the Gillard Parking Lot.
C'mon guys, we need to put our "serious head" on for this one.

I've been really impressed with the work of the club in Merritt. I've corresponded with Darren Coates a couple of times and he's been super helpful — he might have good advice on the insurance issue.
Rossland's club has done amazing work as well, and they've documented the process they went through to build up their association over the years. It's actually a pretty good read.
Cheers,
Jeremy

Read the stuff over at http://grmba.ca. That's covered there. As for specifics, it'd be in the fine print of the actual policy, and we're not that far along yet.

And for the sake of others who are looking the club activities…
What are the obstacles….exactly?
Not just comments like "we have some obstacles" but what they are – the detailed specifics. 1,2,3 and what we are/plan to do about them.

Uhh, insurance?
Apart from that, there's really nothing stopping us. We should be able to sign up with GRMBA for some events, but first we'll need roughly $1000 to get coverage ($200 for directors coverage, and $27 per member). we don't need to insure every member, just the ones that show up to events. That way it's sort of like a payment plan.
So Kranked Premiere to raise a bit of dough, then on to the insurance, then some trail cleanup days.
I'll have posters within the next few days (hopefully before the weekend). Someone go light a fire under Gary's ass, willya?

Just to clarify thats $200. plus $27 per member so if 10 people show up for one trail day then its $470. Is that for the whole year or one day. Is that $1000. on top or do you think that approx. 30 people will show.
My shot in the dark turned out to be blanks and went nowhere.
I guess that vid premier is coming up quick, that should generate some cash.

The member cover is annual, for the whole year.

I was just guessing on the 30 people showing up, but yeah. Whole year's coverage.
