July 29 2009 FYI Lost Lake Trail is temporarily closed north of Windfall Trail to the junction of Lost Lake Trail and Spring Bypass (by the trail that goes east to Thunder Meadow). FOSS has a contractor working with a machine to mitigate the ongoing problem in the spring with run-off and erosion.
Please use an alternate trail for the next couple of days. There are signs posted at each end of the work site.
Thanks, Board of Directors, Friends of the South Slopes

Deadfall details from FOSS:
No Surprise, but the trails are a mess…here's the inventory from my loop this morning:
Fairlane to powerline – clear
Fairlane up to unnamed trail – clear
Unnamed trail to Pipers – pretty bad, about 15 trees down; some large and hard to traverse
Pipers to Lost Lake – 3 trees down
Lost Lake Loop to Spring Bypass – about 5 down
Spring Bypass to Lost Lake Loop – about 6 down
Lost Lake Loop to Lost Lake Trail – about 10 down
Lost Lake Trail to Galloping – about 12 down, some very large and hard to traverse
Galloping to Fairlane – I'd close the trail (dangerous) as there are about 15 trees down, many overhang
Fairlane to Priest Creek – about 10 down, some large and hard to traverse

Brant and I attempted to clear connector to pink hwy to lost lake but the heat was playing havok on our saws monday night so we were only able to get sections of connector done.
Tucker went up tuesday morning and cleared vapor and pink hwy….at least the first part of it anyways…he said vapor had 300+ trees down.

Thursday July 30th: The contractor FOSS hired to do the erosion control project on Lost Lake trail left his lunch bag (a blus canvas cooler type) on his trailer in the SRE parking lot and of course lost it. The worst issue is his new glasses were inside. If you find it or hear about someone finding it please phone Terry – Home 250-765-3444 Cell 250-212-3377

The work done on Lost Lake Trail looks really good, but as of right now its very loose and sketchy, like riding in sand. All the normal lines are gone, so be extra aware riding in that area. Once its packed down it should kick ass.

Thank these people/groups when you see them:
- Ken Tucker (local trail building hero)
- Brant Lyon (local builder/MTBco director)
- Andrew Mc Intosh (local builder/MTBco director)
- BC Parks local ranger, Erin Gunoff
- Various FOSS members/directors
These People spent their Sunday (and many other days for Ken!) this long weekend working hard in the heat and smoke to clear dead fall in Crawford (Myra Bellevue). They did this to help all riders who enjoy the park. Everyone who has been to the park recently has been disappointed to find an unbelievable amount of trees down after recent wind/thunderstorms. BC Parks Senior Ranger, Erin Gunoff put out the request to MTBco for help with the clearing. MTBco's certified operators answered the call and spent Sunday, August 1st clearing with Erin. It may not be all clear on all trails but it's now way better than it was. More trees will fall so it will take more clearing days of course, so again, remember to thank these people when you see them (if you know them!) or just remember to not whine too much about the condition of the park after storms…BC Parks knows we all want the trails clear and they, with MTBco and FOSS's help (and of course the chain saw ferries) are doing their best !
'A big thank you should go out to Andrew, Brant, and Ken for their amazing work today (and Ken's work for the last few days). Trails were clear, and cut to standard. It was a hot one out there today. Bikers, hikers and horse-riders in the park today were amazed and impressed, as was I. Great job! '
Erin Gunoff BC Parks Senior Ranger East Okanagan
As a director of MTBco and rider who loves Crawford, my most sincere thanks goes out to all of you…
Mike Kittmer

I know I'm a leech when it comes to chain saw work, however having said that Earring and Bullwinkle require some clearing. I always move the smaller manageable stuff, but after Tuesday's wind there is a ton of larger blow down.

Thanks for the report. The boys at Venture Gear said there was a large tree down at the bottom of connector too. Anyone know how Vapour is?

I rode the lower part of Vapor tonight and it was good, however it is super dry. We need some rain to make the trail tacky.

A big thanks to the Crawford trail fairy… that windstorm a few weeks ago brought down a ton of trees.

Another windstorm hit crawford. Pink highway seems like the only trail that is totally clear. A big THANKS for Ken that keeps maintaining the crawford trails
